The Rainbow Serpent or in the Nyoongar language; The Wagyl.

The Rainbow Serpent is an Aboriginal dreamtime creature that is associated with the creation and destruction of the land and its inhabitants.

'The dreamtime' or 'the dreaming' is the Aboriginal theory of the world and how everything came to be.

​

The Rainbow Serpent is one of the oldest and most popular dreamtime stories about creationism and has been featured in many rock paintings across the continent of Australia some even believed to the over 6000 years old.

Dreamtime stories before the existence of literature were passed down through the generations through the art of story telling. Due to this dreamtime stories exist in many variations throughout each Aboriginal tribe.

My goal for this collection was to be able to tell the story of The Rainbow Serpent in an almost chronological sequence focusing of the relationship that The Rainbow Serpent had with the land.

I've been able to do this by pulling quotes from several different variations of the story as well as the version I remember being told as a child.
